Perhaps you have seen a review or heard a good report on one of our products and wondered, “What was it compared to?” Or maybe you said to yourself, “Sure, it sounded good in the reviewer’s system, but how would it sound in my system?” Up until now, you could never be sure, but now you can be certain that the component you’re interested in will sound great in your system and meet all of your needs.
With the demise of most of the local brick-and-mortar high end audio stores, unless you live near a large city you aren’t able to audition a component, let alone take it home to listen to in at your leisure in your system, without first purchasing it. And even if you do live near a store that carries high-quality audio components, their selection is limited. Our In Home Audition program gives you another option.
If you live in the U.S. it is now possible to audition the Extreme RAKK dac Mk III and/or the Maxxed-Out Phono Preamplifier in your home audio system before you make a purchase decision. We are providing this opportunity, because we realize that under the present economic conditions you need to exercise your discretionary purchasing power as intelligently as possible. We believe that once you hear music conveyed through either of these components, you will appreciate what a terrific sonic value these components are.
Basically, the In Home Audition works this way. We will loan you either piece of equipment for you to use at home in your own system for a couple of weeks, then after the audition ends, you return the equipment to us. You pay shipping both ways and a 5% service fee. There is no commitment beyond this. If you do want to own a unit, we will build you your own brand-new component, customized with the features that you select. The 5% service fee that you have already paid will be credited toward your purchase of the new unit, and shipping for the new unit will be free of charge (in the U.S.).
Specific details are below in the FAQ.
In Home Audition is possible only by credit card payment.

How much is the deposit?
A deposit equal to 95% of the selling price of the loaned equipment will be charged to the borrower’s credit card when the arrangements for loan are made. This deposit is fully refundable should the borrower decide not to purchase a DAC or phono preamp at the end of the audition loan period. The refund will be made when the loaned equipment is received in good condition by K&K Audio. Should the borrower decide to purchase a DAC or phono preamp at the end of the audition loan period; the deposit will be credited to that purchase.
Is there a fee?
A fee of 5% of the selling price of the loaned equipment will be charged to the borrower’s credit card when the arrangements for loan are made. This fee is not refundable, however should the borrower decide to purchase a DAC or phono preamp at the end of the audition loan period; the fee will be credited toward that purchase.
What about shipping?
The round trip shipping charge will also be charged to the borrower’s credit card. The shipping charge for the In-Home Audition is not refundable, however should the borrower decide to purchase a DAC or phono preamp at the end of the audition loan period; that purchased unit will be shipped to the customer free of charge. Unless requested otherwise, we will endeavor to minimize charges by making use of the least expensive UPS service that allows the borrower to take full advantage of the demonstration period.
How long can I keep it?
A notice will be included with the shipment of borrowed equipment stating the date the equipment should be shipped back to K&K Audio. The borrower should contact K&K Audio at least 2 days before this return date to confirm use of the prepaid return label, or so that K&K Audio can issue the necessary UPS “call tag” for pick-up. Use of the return label or call tag saves the borrower from having to deal directly with UPS.
